Mixed fortunes for EBC – 2nd December 2017

EBC boxers Mubanga Chisanga and Callum Lucas took on Hastings Westhill opponents on Saturday 2nd December at Hollington in Hastings which turned out to be crackers!

First up, 15 year old Lightweight Callum Lucas, climbed in the ring against the tall and rangy Ruhan Ahmed. The Hastings boxer kept it at range well keeping Callum on the end of his jab and taking the first round. Callum found his range better in the 2nd and moved his head to avoid the jab and rear hand. Cal then exploded up with well-timed hooks to head and body. It was a similar story in the 3rd round but the home boxer took the bout on a split decision. “We are very happy with Callum’s performance. He was able to adapt and change things when it wasn’t going his way. Everything we’ve been doing in the gym is paying off under pressure in competition. We thought he won, but that’s boxing!” said youth coach Paul Senior.

Next up senior light-welterweight and crowd pleaser Mubanga ‘Banga’ Chisanga was matched up against the younger but more experienced Alex Howes of Hastings Westhill. A fast start saw Banga score well to head and body driving his green and white opponent back to the ropes. As the second round began, Banga ripped it some hurtful trademark hooks to the body. Two rounds up. With huge credit to Howes, he rallied and picked some lovely shots in the 3rd to keep Banga at bay as the paced slowed. But Banga had done enough and claimed a well deserved split decision. “Banga boxed very well against a talented lad. There were some particularly impressive shots going in from Banga. He’s great to watch” said Senior Coach Paul Hipperson.

Co-Senior Coach Adam Haniver said, “it’s great prep for the home show on the 16th at Skateworld. The boxers are busy and sparring has been excellent. Keep an eye out for our guys around town, beating the roads as part of their periodized training programmes which will have them in tip top shape, ready to rock!”
