Eastbourne Boxing Club Produces Champions

Omid Raouf (22) has been very successful in the Sussex County Championships working his way through various opponents to be crowned Sussex middleweight champion. Omid progressed to the final with a first round stoppage against Barthy Farthing of Westhill Boxing Club of Hastings thanks to a left hook to the body.

The following day he was in the final for his weight against big punching Thanos Katsondonis of Hillcrest Club, Newhaven. Held on their home turf it was a tough match however Omid boxed superbly, using good footwork to avoid the heavy blows whilst countering with sharp punches of his own to take a unanimous points decision.

Omid then faced Kent champion Max Olive in Hastings and won with a unanimous points decision.

Trainer Adam Haniver said of Omid “Roauf is a clever fighter and he can adapt in the ring. He listens to instructions and implements the game plan very well. It was a very well deserved victory against a tough opponent with a big stoppage rate.”

The club has other fighters who are competing for their weight titles during the next few months. Welterweight Dan Pert was beaten on points in the semi final of the Sussex Championships. He lost to the eventual winner Harvey Colwell-Levine.
